Missed Mid-Summer

The mid-summer fire festival is without a doubt my favorite event in World of Warcraft.  Even if I’m not trying to fight horde putting out our fires, it’s fun to fly around the entire world(s) and look at everything.  Of course I didn’t bother until the last minute, forgetting just how long it takes to do each continent.  I did pick up the new pet though.

Then I attempted to hit a Tauren paladin who was hovering in the air above our fire, and he promptly came down and took me to almost dead in a few hits:

We’re having fun, aren’t we? 800k crit, 500k regular hit.  My health pool is 3 million.  Math.

Shaco

For some reason, I can’t find a single reference to the rogue Shaco, who I met several expansions ago.  I usually write about any regular encounter with pvpers in the world, but not a single thing about this guy.  I could only find this screenshot.

As I recall, we ran into each other probably back in Cataclysm, where he use to kill NPCs in the Eastvale Logging Camp. I fought him on my priest and, my memory is fuzzy.  I more than likely died to him when I played shadow priest, but that was typical.  He most certainly didn’t kill me when I was discipline.  We tangled a few times but it must not have been worthy of an entry because I can’t find a thing.

Anyway, I’ve had him on my btags (Fooja) list for a while now.  Only, he’s been rude on par with Holystab on a regular basis lately, with making grandiose claims about how often and how badly he used to beat me in the world (I would have written about it), and how he one-shots everyone these days, on all his characters, everywhere.  Including beating 2400+ rated rbg players.

I was commenting about the good old Halaa days and how many tokens my hunter still has (over 100) and that got a “is that it?”.  Well I threw a lot away and used some for mounts.  In Holystab fashion I got one-upped with “I bought all those in BC” (mind you he writes in 12 year old broken text-speak I just can’t be bothered to duplicate it) and “who cares about Halaa”.   I went on to talk about all the fun fights we had out there and got “Whisperwind is stupid”. Then he went on and on about farming people, how stupid easy arena is, how he’s going to tell his 2’s partner ‘he trash’ and then he’ll get kicked out of a guild he’s been in for years but ‘i dont rly care lol’.

I’ve easily had them on btags for years but being constantly insulted like ‘I’m guessing  you went to Halaa and waited 6 hours for 1 player’ and then made-up stories about how he beat me and some hunter (what?), well, I don’t need this shit.  It’s not often I remove people but this is absurd.

That Thing I Do

So eesh.  I changed my hunter from blood elf to human again.  She was originally human.  Anyway, what did they do to hunters?  Marksman is completely unrecognizable from the last time I played it in MoP.  No fire/explosive trap, for one.  No scatter shot, and ok ok, rightly so.  Ice trap doesn’t look like ice block any more, I don’t like it.  No glaive toss.  No maintaining Serpents Sting or that other thing I use to have to keep uptime on.  It’s just auto attack and hit buttons as they proc.  It’s odd.

Barrage doesn’t work like it use to.  It use to actually send arrows AT people.  Let’s say it loosed 20 arrows and you had 2 targets in range.  Each one got 10 arrows (ish).  Now? Now it just sprays arrows (doesn’t even need a target) just randomly all over the place.  Gosh man, even in Diablo 2 like 17  years ago it worked properly as that Amazon skill.  I swapped it for Murder of Crows it’s so dumb.  It doesn’t even sound cool like barrage use to, it sounds like, multi-shot I believe.

Then Mend pet.  Mend pet was instant, it’s still instant.  But, it’s not.  It’s gotta be at least a .5 cast time now, maybe a little less, but it’s there.  Or… something.  You use to be able to weave it into your regular rotation like it’s nothing, now there’s a little delay like you’re having lag.  So whatever is doing that, it’s different.

Then bursting shot.  It’s supposed to hit “all enemies in front of you”.  Says nothing about range.  It couldn’t even hit this goat, from this range:

or this range:

or THIS RANGE

It literally has a graphical area of effect of perhaps 2 years, but an effective range of 0 yards.

This goat is being hit by the animation.  It doesn’t actually GET HIT.

And, I want to tame these guys.  But, I can’t!

And finally, don’t ask me to joins “Sons of the Alliance”, I will snark and tell you I can’t because I’m not a son.  It’s my thing but I won’t join a guild with a stupid name.

Hunter, whaaaaat?

I decided to try to power level my hunter, who was originally human, to blood elf.  Only, the way they hold the bow looks really, really weird.  Was it always this way? I don’t recall.  Shaco pointed out they use a bow like a cross bow.  It looks ridiculous.

What are my legs even DOING there? Holding in pee?

I mean, this is a big deal to me.  I seriously played a male human mystic in Lineage 2 because I didn’t like how the females RAN.

I decided to compare it against humans, who not only hold it a good way, with a good stance, but they close one eye to target.  I don’t know if that’s correct but it looks cool.

Night elves nock and draw really well too, but just stand with both feet together.  I like the human stance better.

Orc isn’t half bad, they have their feet apart but not as much as humans, they don’t even attempt to pull an arrow from an invisible quiver like the night elf, but otherwise it’s similar to night elf.  Other than being an ugly ass orc I mean.

Draenei is ‘ok’ but they make an angry face doing it. They also appear to pull an arrow out of said invisible quiver.

For kicks, made a gnome hunter. Their animation is just fine.  But they don’t look like they are trying to shoot you straight through the heart like humans, so human it is!  Gnome is super cute though, but maybe on a new hunter.

I can actually play FROST

I’ve tried playing as a frost mage over the years, but it never quite worked out.  I would do exactly what I saw the good players doing but would die rather quickly while their shield seemed to hold out for ages and they could kite for miles.  My shield lasts half a second, they break my roots, and beat me to hell.

But in Legion  it’s considerably easier to play.  Someone mentioned it feels like a WoD shadow priest, and it does.  If you take Glacial Spike, you ramp up to 5 icicles, then use it to form a big one (with a cast time) and let it go for a lot of damage.  That doesn’t really work in PvP so I took Comet storm, but frost now has nice little procs for Flurry and Ice Lance, and with Frost Nova, Ice Nova, the frozen orb, Comet storm all on very decent cool downs, plus double nova, double blink, it’s very fun to play.  It’s about on par with Fire, though I do miss Fire’s ability to spam cast Flamestrike. Blizzard is on a cool down.

World pvp is still bogus though.  I have that video where a warrior took me to 20% health before I could even react, that frost mage that did the same when I was questing, and now a rogue who took nearly all my health before I could blink.  I was at 40% and just fell over dead.  So sad. I miss normal wpvp.
